Overview
The AFRITRAC MSc Fellowship Program 2026 provides master’s fellowship opportunities in Biostatistics and Epidemiology for African graduates and early-career professionals. Supported by the European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership Joint Undertaking, the initiative aims to develop a new generation of researchers equipped to use quantitative research, statistical analysis, and data-driven approaches to strengthen public health systems and respond to infectious disease threats across the continent.
Who can apply
Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of a country in sub-Saharan Africa. Candidates are required to hold a bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline or a related field, such as statistics, mathematics, data science, epidemiology, public health, or other related quantitative areas. The programme targets early-career professionals including public health practitioners, researchers, health data analysts, and emerging epidemiologists working in health-related research and data management. Candidates should also demonstrate strong quantitative aptitude, English language proficiency, basic familiarity with statistical software, and a commitment to building a career in health data science within Africa.
What you get
Participants receive advanced master’s-level academic training in either Biostatistics or Epidemiology. The fellowship facilitates practical skills development in quantitative research, exposure to statistical analysis and public health data applications, opportunities to strengthen research and analytical capabilities, and professional development relevant to epidemic preparedness and infectious disease research. It also promotes regional collaboration by connecting emerging African public health professionals to strengthen broader research networks.
