Sweden's best-known scholarship for master's students from outside Europe is the Swedish Institute Scholarship for Global Professionals, which covers tuition and a living allowance for selected English-taught programmes. It is limited to citizens of listed countries, asks for work and leadership experience, and requires admission to an eligible programme first. Universities also run their own scholarships and tuition waivers, so each institution's page is worth checking.

Applications to Swedish universities go through the central portal universityadmissions.se, which runs two admission rounds per semester. Applicants who need a residence permit are advised to use the first round, because the second is mainly for EU/EEA applicants and offers only part of the English-taught catalogue. Non-EU/EEA applicants generally pay application and tuition fees. Every English-taught course sets an English-language requirement, and transcripts and test results must arrive by the round's deadline.

Students from outside the EU/EEA need a residence permit for studies from the Migration Agency. After finishing a bachelor's or master's programme with every course passed, graduates can apply for a permit of up to one year to look for work or explore starting a business, provided they apply before the study permit expires and show sufficient funds. Doctoral graduates can receive a longer period. Common mistakes include missing the first-round deadline, expecting a reserve-list place to qualify for the Swedish Institute scholarship, and leaving a single course incomplete.
