Yokohama National University MEXT Japan Scholarship 2027 (Fully Funded)
Overview
The Yokohama National University Scholarship 2027 provides fully funded opportunities for international students to pursue Master and Doctoral studies in Japan. Administered by Yokohama National University, all courses are available through this government-backed program. The duration is two years for Master programs and three years for Doctoral programs.
Who can apply
Applicants of all nationalities are eligible to apply, provided they hold citizenship in a country that maintains diplomatic relations with Japan. Candidates must be 34 years of age or younger as of April 1, 2025, and must be able to arrive in Japan prior to the start of the fall semester in 2027. For doctoral applicants, candidates are generally required to hold a four-year bachelor degree as well as a master degree, maintain an excellent academic record across both previous degree levels, and provide proof of English proficiency through an official test score like TOEFL or IELTS, or an equivalent certificate of English proficiency. Knowledge of the Japanese language and IELTS or TOEFL scores are not mandatory for general applicants.
What you get
The Japanese Government MEXT scholarship covers all major expenses for successful candidates. Master degree candidates receive a monthly stipend of 144,000 yen, while doctoral course candidates receive 145,000 yen per month. An additional allowance of 2,000 or 3,000 yen per month is added to the monthly grant. The university provides free accommodation, and entrance examination and tuition fees are fully covered by the scholarship recommendation. Additionally, recipients receive a round-trip economy-class air ticket for travel to and from Japan.

Candidates can submit their applications through either the general university-recommendation route or a special graduate programme.
