USRA Distinguished Undergraduate Awards 2027: $5,000 Scholarships for Future Space Scientists and Engineers
Overview
The USRA Distinguished Undergraduate Awards 2027 are offered by the Universities Space Research Association (USRA) to undergraduate students preparing for careers in science, engineering, aerospace and space research. Each year USRA gives up to five scholarships worth up to 5,000 dollars each. They recognize academic excellence, leadership and commitment to advancing space science and aerospace disciplines, and are linked to scholarships established in honor of distinguished leaders in science and the U.S. space program. Awards are matched to the applicant's background and area of study.
What you get
Each selected student may receive up to 5,000 dollars, along with recognition from a respected scientific organization, financial support for undergraduate study and a stronger profile for graduate school and research opportunities.
Who can apply
Applicants should be full-time undergraduates at an accredited four-year college or university, within two years of completing a bachelor's degree in an eligible field, with a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher on a 4.0 scale and a strong interest in space research, aerospace engineering or space science education. They must meet citizenship or institutional eligibility requirements, and students at selected international USRA member universities may also be eligible. Previous USRA scholarship recipients cannot apply again. Eligible fields include aerospace, mechanical, electrical and computer engineering, computer science, physics, astronomy, mathematics, earth, planetary, space and atmospheric sciences, engineering physics and space-related life sciences.
How to apply
Applicants prepare a completed application, a personal statement on career goals and achievements, a leadership and community engagement statement, two letters of recommendation (at least one from a professor or academic mentor), a college transcript and a CV or resume. Applications are judged on academic excellence, interest in space science or aerospace engineering, the personal statement, leadership, community outreach, recommendations and overall potential. Recommendation letters must arrive before the reference deadline.
