University of Southampton Scholarships In UK (Funded)
Overview
The University of Southampton offers scholarships for international students at undergraduate, Master's and PhD level for 2027 entry. They combine automatic merit-based tuition reductions with competitive awards and with major external schemes that admitted students can also use, such as Chevening, Commonwealth, Fulbright, Said Foundation, Marshall and China Scholarship Council joint funding.
What you get
At undergraduate level, the Undergraduate Global Excellence Scholarship gives a 3,000 pound discount on first-year tuition, and some faculties offer subject-specific international merit discounts of up to 4,500 pounds on first-year tuition. For taught Master's students, the GREAT Scholarship 2027 (USA) is worth 10,000 pounds for eligible US citizens or permanent residents admitted to a one-year, in-person Master's in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities. Partial tuition waivers based on academic excellence and region, and the competitive Vice-Chancellor's Global Achievers Award, are also available. PhD applicants can access research group funding, faculty studentships and doctoral training grants, whose deadlines often fall several months before the programme starts.
Who can apply
Applicants must be international fee-paying students holding an official offer for an eligible Southampton programme for 2027 entry, and must meet academic entry and English language requirements. Some awards add conditions on country, residency or faculty, such as US citizenship for the GREAT Scholarship.
How to apply
Undergraduates apply through UCAS from September 1, 2026, and Master's and PhD applicants apply directly through the university's online system. Automatic awards such as the Undergraduate Global Excellence Scholarship need no separate form, while competitive awards such as the GREAT Scholarship require a separate online submission after an offer is received.
Key dates
The main undergraduate equal-consideration deadline is January 13, 2027 at 18:00 UK time.
