Overview

The Toronto Metropolitan University Global Migration Institute Scholarships provide annual stipends through the Bridging Divides program. The initiative supports graduate students conducting research on topics related to the program's designated research themes. Selected recipients become fully integrated into the Toronto Metropolitan University Global Migration Institute team, where they take part in research training activities and workshops designed to foster professional and scientific development.

Who can apply

The scholarships are open to full-time Master's and PhD students who are either studying at Toronto Metropolitan University or applying to study there. Eligible candidates must pursue research connected to one of four specific themes, which include immigrant health and well-being, employment and lifelong learning, place and infrastructure, and citizenship and participation. Supervisors or co-supervisors of the applicants must be Toronto Metropolitan University faculty members directly involved in the program.

What you get

Master's students, including both domestic and international prospective first-year students and existing students entering their second year in Fall 2027, can receive up to $35,000 per year for a maximum of two years for incoming students. Existing PhD students enrolled in a Toronto Metropolitan University program in Fall 2027 can receive up to $45,000 per year for both domestic and international students, for a maximum of three years. All renewals are contingent upon annual progress reviews and the availability of funds.

Requirements

Applicants must submit a curriculum vitae, transcripts, a statement of interest or letter of intent from their Master's program application, and an online application form indicating the programs they applied for. Additionally, applicants must provide a motivation letter of up to two pages stating their intent to apply for the stipend, justifying their selection, and explaining how their research connects to at least one of the four research themes. Applicants to the Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science must also provide the name of a proposed supervisor who is a Bridging Divides researcher and a written statement from the Associate Dean of Graduate Studies confirming they meet admission requirements.
