PhD Studentship: Understanding and preventing shock-induced tissue injury using dynamic nanofluidics
Overview
This PhD studentship focuses on understanding and preventing shock-induced tissue injury through the application of dynamic nanofluidics. The research examines how mechanical shocks cause cellular and tissue damage, and aims to establish quantitative correlations between biological injuries and detailed mechanical conditions across various timescales. The project brings molecular mechanisms of shock absorption, specifically squeezing water into hydrophobic nanopores, into the field of biology to explore how stress waves and transmitted mechanical energy regulate tissue injury.
Requirements
The position is a full-time, fixed-term PhD studentship based on site at the University of Birmingham within the Department of Mechanical Engineering.
Key dates
The closing date for applications is 23 November 2026.
