PhD Studentship in Aeronautics: Electric Composites (AE0093)
Overview
This PhD studentship focuses on structural power composites, which are materials designed to carry mechanical loads while simultaneously storing energy. The research centers on building physics-informed surrogate models and process simulations within a Bayesian-optimisation loop, integrating machine learning with composites manufacturing and energy storage. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Dr Ajit Panesar and Prof Emile Greenhalgh, collaborating with the structural power composites and IDEA lab teams, as well as industrial partners and academic institutions including Chalmers and KTH. The position has a duration of 3.5 years, with the start date scheduled between 1st August 2027 and 1st July 2028.
Who can apply
Home, EU, and International students are eligible to apply for this studentship. Candidates are expected to hold or achieve a First class honours MEng, MSci, or higher degree, or an international equivalent, in Aeronautics or Mechanical Engineering.
What you get
The studentship provides full coverage of tuition fees along with an annual tax-free stipend of £23,805 per year.
Requirements
Applicants must meet the academic qualification standards by holding the specified first-class degree in the designated engineering disciplines. The work arrangement for this role is on-site at Imperial College London in the United Kingdom, operating on a full-time, fixed-term contract basis.
