PhD Studentship: Improving Artificial Intelligence through Neuroscience
Overview
The University of Exeter, through its Department of Clinical and Biomedical Sciences, offers a PhD studentship focused on improving artificial intelligence by applying concepts from neuroscience. Funded by the EPSRC Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, the project explores how recent neuroscience developments can enhance deep networks. The research investigates two main areas, namely neuron-astrocyte interactions as a source of regularisation and spontaneous coordinated activity in developing networks for network initialisation. Ultimately, the work aims to produce better, more explainable, and more sustainable artificial intelligence systems.
What you get
The studentship provides coverage of tuition fees alongside an annual stipend of £21,805 per annum for the 2026/7 period.
Key dates
The closing date for applications is 2026-12-08.
