PhD Studentship: Dynamic Analysis of Particle-Based Long-Duration Energy Storage Systems
Overview
The University of Manchester, through the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, is offering a three and a half year PhD studentship focused on the dynamic analysis of particle-based long-duration energy storage systems. The research investigates transient thermo-fluid behaviour, heat transfer, particle transport, and dynamic system response in high-temperature particle-based thermal energy storage operating under variable renewable energy conditions. The project develops high-fidelity multi-physics computational fluid dynamics models and integrates physics-informed artificial intelligence frameworks, reduced-order modelling, and digital twin technologies. The student will join an internationally leading research team at the University of Manchester and a major international consortium of UK industrial partners and academic institutions across the UK, Europe, and the USA.
