PhD Studentship: Discovering the Next Generation of Antibiotics
Overview
A four-year PhD studentship is available at the University of East Anglia, focused on discovering the next generation of antibiotics. The project addresses the global health threat of antibiotic-resistant bacteria by targeting specialized metabolites of Streptomyces strains. Because more than ninety percent of these encoded metabolites are not normally produced in laboratory conditions, the research aims to use genetic methods to activate cryptic pathways and uncover new antibiotic compounds.
