PhD Studentship: Development of New Generation Corrosion-resistant Aluminium Alloys
Overview
This 3.5-year PhD studentship focuses on the development of new generation corrosion-resistant aluminium alloys at the Department of Materials at The University of Manchester. The project addresses the research incentive to improve the corrosion performance of wrought high-strength aluminium alloys formulated from end-of-life recycled aluminium, aiming to reduce embedded carbon levels. The research involves controlling alloy microstructures, studying interactions between chemistry, processing, and performance, and employing advanced high-resolution electron microscopy, electrochemical measurements, and X-ray and electron-based nanotomography. The position combines academic research with industrial experience and offers the chance to collaborate with industrial partners in Europe.
