PhD Studentship - Developing Blood Tests for the Early Detection of Neurodegeneration Following Traumatic Brain Injury
Overview
The University of Exeter is recruiting a doctoral student through the GW4 BioMed3 Doctoral Landscape Programme, which is funded by the Medical Research Council. The programme offers up to 18 studentships across a wide range of biomedical disciplines, and this project is one of the options competing for a place within that shared pool. The work sits in the Department of Clinical and Biomedical Sciences and is based on site, with a start date of October 2027.
Who can apply
The studentships are open to both UK and international students. Candidates are considered in competition with applicants to the other projects offered across the GW4 partnership, so a place on this project depends on how the application ranks against those for the remaining awards.
What you get
Each studentship lasts four years. The award covers UK tuition fees together with a doctoral stipend set at the UK Research Council national minimum, which is 21,805 pounds a year for 2026/27 and is updated annually. In addition, up to 5,000 pounds per year is available for research training and support costs.
Students on the programme also benefit from the wider training environment of the partnership, which brings together several universities in the south-west of England and Wales.
Key dates
Applications close on 21 October 2026. Successful students begin their four-year programme in October 2027.
