Overview

A full-time, fixed-term PhD studentship is available at the University of Exeter within the Department of Public Health and Sport Sciences. The project focuses on using computer vision to predict falls from everyday movement in older adults. Falls are a leading cause of injury-related hospital admissions and deaths, and current clinical risk assessments often fail to capture how individuals move during daily life. This research builds upon data collected from older adults in a simulated home environment, combining multi-camera video, motion capture, and wearable sensors to analyze high-risk movements.

What you get

The studentship provides funding for tuition fees as well as a stipend of £21,805 per annum for the 2026/7 academic year. The successful candidate will receive cross-disciplinary training in computer vision, data science, biomechanics, and clinical falls research, supported by a specialized supervisory team.

Key dates

The closing date for applications is December 8, 2026.
