Overview
The Ph.D. in Aging Studies is an interdisciplinary doctoral research training program hosted by the School of Aging Studies within the College of Behavioral and Community Sciences at the University of South Florida. The program is designed for students interested in aging, health and well-being, caregiving, dementia, public policy, long-term care, and the social and psychological aspects of growing older. It allows students to select research mentors from faculty members across the entire university campus, enabling them to build an individually tailored training program that aligns with their specific academic and professional goals.
Who can apply
The program is intended for prospective students who want to contribute to research on aging and improve the understanding of the challenges and opportunities associated with later life. It is suited for individuals pursuing career pathways in academic research, university teaching, government research, policy development, and private consulting.
Requirements
Students in the program are required to develop expertise in one of four designated research focus areas, which include caregiving and behavioral interventions, as well as palliative care, chronic pain, and dementia. Each doctoral student creates an individually tailored training program, selects research mentors from across the USF campus, and undertakes research that reflects the complex, interconnected dimensions of aging.
