Overview

Oregon State University (OSU) in Corvallis, Oregon, is a public research university founded in 1868 with more than 35,000 students from over 100 countries. It offers international students several funding routes across Bachelor's, Master's and PhD programmes: undergraduate merit scholarships, graduate research and teaching assistantships, fellowships and Honors College grants. Strong areas include artificial intelligence, forestry, oceanography, robotics, civil engineering and public health.

Scholarships are available across engineering and technology, environmental and earth sciences, agricultural and life sciences, business and management, health and human sciences, physical and natural sciences, and social sciences and humanities.

What you get

Graduate assistantship and fellowship holders receive a 100 percent tuition waiver for the length of the appointment, a monthly living stipend, a university health insurance plan, and travel or conference support for some departmental research projects. Undergraduate international students can receive the International Provost Scholarship of up to $6,000 per year, awarded automatically on admission and renewable for up to 4 years if GPA requirements are met. Honors College students may receive additional awards of up to $2,000 per year, and supplemental departmental and need-based grants are available through the OSU ScholarDollars portal.

Who can apply

The awards are open to international students of all nationalities applying to full-time degree programmes. Undergraduates need a recognised secondary school certificate with a strong GPA, and SAT or ACT scores are optional for most programmes. Graduate applicants need a recognised Bachelor's or Master's degree with strong transcripts, recommendation letters, a statement of purpose and a CV.

English proficiency can be shown with a TOEFL iBT score of at least 80 or an IELTS Academic overall score of at least 6.5, with higher scores required by some departments. Some departments accept the Duolingo English Test, and exemptions apply for native speakers and for applicants whose previous degrees were taught in English. To renew multi-year awards, students must maintain satisfactory progress, typically a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

How to apply

Applicants submit an admission application to their chosen programme through the university's admissions portal and indicate interest in institutional financial aid and merit scholarships on that form. They include transcripts, certified English translations, a statement of purpose, a resume and reference letters. After admission, students receive their ONID login and complete a profile on OSU ScholarDollars to be matched with university-wide, college and departmental scholarships.
