Overview

The NCHU Taiwan Government Scholarship supports international students taking Bachelor's, Master's or PhD degrees at National Chung Hsing University (NCHU) in Taichung, Taiwan. NCHU is a public research university founded in 1919, known for programs in agriculture, engineering, business administration, natural sciences and social sciences.

What you get

Graduate students receive a monthly stipend of NT$20,000, and undergraduates receive NT$15,000. The award also includes a tuition and miscellaneous fee waiver of NT$40,000 per semester. Insurance, internet and accommodation fees are not covered. The maximum combined duration across any combination of programs is 5 years. Stipends are paid at the end of each month starting from the September start of the academic year, though January payments may be delayed by the fiscal year change and February payments may vary because of the Chinese New Year holiday.

Who can apply

Applicants need a high school diploma or higher, good academic performance at their most recent institution and good moral character. They must not be Taiwanese nationals or overseas Taiwanese compatriots, and must not have previously enrolled in a Taiwanese institution at the same degree level they are applying for. Exchange students under an academic cooperation agreement are not eligible. Applicants must have no record of revocation from an MOE Scholarship program or another government-sponsored scholarship, and cannot hold another R.O.C. government scholarship or subsidy at the same time.

Requirements

Recipients must meet grade standards. Failing in the first semester cancels the scholarship from the following March semester, failing in the second semester cancels it from the following September semester, and two consecutive failures lead to permanent revocation. Recipients submit their latest transcripts to the NCHU Office of International Affairs at the start of each semester. Graduate students writing a thesis without formal courses submit an official evaluation form instead.

How to apply

The application is made through the relevant Taiwan government scholarship portal, not directly through NCHU. Applicants gather transcripts, degree certificates, proof of English or Chinese language proficiency and other documents listed in the guidelines.

Key dates

The fixed annual application window runs from 1 January to 31 March, and late applications are not accepted.
