Overview

The Generation Google Scholarship is supported by Google.org and administered by the Institute of International Education (IIE). It aims to help aspiring technology professionals do well academically while building the leadership skills to shape the future of technology. The Ireland-specific version is for women studying computer science and related fields at universities in Ireland. The most recent application cycle is closed, and dates and conditions for 2027 will be confirmed when a new cycle is announced.

What you get

The previous cycle offered an award of 5,000 euros for two consecutive years of undergraduate study. Funds can help with tuition and mandatory university fees, books and academic supplies, equipment required for the degree and other mandatory university costs. The scholarship is not designed to cover room and board.

Who can apply

In the previous cycle, applicants were first- or second-year undergraduates enrolled at a university in Ireland who intended to continue their bachelor's degree there. They had to study computer science, computer engineering or a closely related technical field, show leadership, have a strong academic record and meet all programme requirements. Children of Google employees were not eligible. Leadership does not require a formal title: it can be shown through leading a technology project, organizing a student coding group, mentoring classmates, volunteering or helping others learn digital skills, and strong applications describe what the applicant actually achieved. Academic strength can be shown through grades, strong technical coursework, awards, research or academic projects.

How to apply

The previous Ireland application asked for general background information, university details, a resume or CV, two recommendation letters, academic transcripts and short-answer essays. Eligibility and academic-year requirements should be checked once the next cycle opens.
