Overview
The University of Global Health Equity offers an 18-month Master of Science in Health Professions Education through the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program. This postgraduate programme runs across three semesters for a total of 180 credits and utilizes a blended learning format that combines online instruction with intensive face-to-face sessions held at the university in Rwanda. Students engage in practical activities, mentorship, and networking designed to prepare them for roles such as health educators, curriculum leaders, clinical faculty members, and institutional leaders.
Who can apply
Applicants must be citizens and residents of an African country, or hold refugee status in an African country, and be aged 35 years or younger at the time of application, though exceptions apply to candidates with disabilities. Eligible candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree in a health-related field and submit official academic transcripts along with a degree certificate. Individuals who already possess a master's degree are not eligible for this opportunity. Applicants should preferably have professional background experience in teaching, supervision, or educational leadership within health-related higher education institutions, or alternatively demonstrate teaching potential if they are early-career professionals.
Requirements
Candidates must complete the official online application and provide necessary personal, academic, and demographic information alongside required supporting documents. The required documentation includes a passport, national identity card, or refugee identification document, academic transcripts, and a Bachelor's degree certificate. Employed applicants must provide a signed and stamped institutional recommendation letter confirming institutional support and adequate time to participate in both online and in-person components. Only one complete application per candidate is accepted, and incomplete submissions or multiple applications are disqualified. Accepted students must commit to the full 18-month programme, as early exits with a postgraduate certificate or diploma are not permitted.
