Overview

This four-year MRes and PhD studentship is offered through the Cambridge EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Future Infrastructure and Built Environment: Unlocking Net Zero at the University of Cambridge Department of Engineering. The research project is funded in collaboration with Network Rail and investigates infrastructure system management in a changing climate. The study focuses on scientifically defining and quantifying environmental and operational thresholds for key rail assets to integrate into long-term climate adaptation planning. Researchers will analyze historical asset and network performance to identify tipping points resulting from climatic stressors such as extreme heat, high-intensity rainfall, soil moisture variation, and compound weather events.
