DAAD In-Country/In-Region Scholarship 2027 (Fully Funded)
Overview
The DAAD In-Country/In-Region Scholarship Programme is funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and aims to strengthen higher education systems in developing countries by training experts in development-related fields. Students can study at a host university in their own country or elsewhere in their region instead of travelling to Germany. The current call offers scholarships for different Master's programmes at selected institutions for students from Sub-Saharan African countries, with a scholarship start between August and December 2027. In 2023 the programme awarded 267 new scholarships, with many going to women and to people from Least Developed Countries.
What you get
The scholarship pays tuition fees for the whole postgraduate programme and a monthly scholarship rate for living costs. It also includes a study and research allowance, a printing allowance for the final thesis, and for in-region scholars a travel allowance and health insurance funding depending on location. Further support may be available, as described in the Your DAAD Scholarship brochure provided on admission.
Who can apply
The programme covers Master's and PhD level study and is open to students from Sub-Saharan Africa, Central and South America, South and Southeast Asia, and the Middle East. Applicants must plan to study either in their own country or within their region. Host institutions are located across these regions, and the current Master's call is for Sub-Saharan African students.
How to apply
Applicants review the eligibility criteria and funding details, prepare the documents set out in the programme guidelines, and submit them through the DAAD portal. DAAD also holds a virtual information session for prospective applicants.
Key dates
The application deadline is November 12, 2026. Early submission is recommended because the programme is competitive.
