Czech Government Scholarships 2027/2028: Eligibility, Study Programmes, Benefits and How to Apply
Overview
The Czech Government Scholarships 2027/2028 let eligible students from selected developing and other third countries study at public universities in the Czech Republic. The scheme is part of the country's foreign development cooperation, and according to the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports more than 20,000 foreign nationals have completed studies in Czech universities with its support. It is administered by the Czech government institutions responsible for education, foreign affairs and, where relevant, health.
Support is built around the standard length of the approved full-time programme. There is no automatic legal entitlement to a scholarship.
Who can apply
For 2027/2028, citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Ukraine, Belarus (specifically democratic forces), Ethiopia, Gabon, Mauritania, Zambia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, Palestine, Guatemala and Honduras are eligible. Czech citizens, citizens of European Union member states and foreign nationals with permanent residence in the Czech Republic are not eligible. Applicants to a follow-up Master's programme need a completed Bachelor's degree, and doctoral applicants need a completed Master's degree. Those applying to English-medium programmes must take an online English entrance test.
What you get
The call covers selected full-time programmes only, not every degree at Czech universities. Applicants from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Ukraine and Belarus may be considered for selected two-year follow-up Master's programmes taught in Czech, preceded by a one-year Czech language and preparatory course provided through the Institute for Language and Preparatory Studies of Charles University. Applicants from all listed countries can apply for selected two-year follow-up Master's programmes taught in English, and for selected English-language doctoral programmes lasting three to four years.
The precise financial and administrative terms are set in the official scholarship guidelines, which applicants should read before applying.
How to apply
Applicants first confirm that their nationality is on the 2027/2028 list, since eligibility from earlier years does not carry over, then choose a programme from the government's selected list.
Key dates
Applications are open from 21 August to 30 September 2026, with studies beginning in the 2027/2028 academic year.
