Overview

The Gates Cambridge Scholarship 2027 is a fully funded award for international students taking a postgraduate degree at the University of Cambridge. It is funded by the Gates Foundation and about 80 scholarships are awarded each year. It covers a PhD, MSc, MLitt or Master's programme in any subject offered at Cambridge, from biomedical sciences and engineering to humanities, arts, social sciences, archaeology, architecture and Islamic studies.

What you get

The scholarship covers the university composition fee at the appropriate rate and tuition for Master's and doctoral programmes. It also provides a maintenance allowance for a single student of 17,500 pounds for 12 months at the 2027-28 rate, an economy airfare at the start and end of the course, and visa entry and immigration health surcharge costs. Academic development funding of 500 to 2,000 pounds, depending on course length, supports attendance at conferences and courses. Scholars with children can receive a family allowance of up to 10,120 pounds for a first child and up to 4,320 pounds for a second, though no funding is provided for a partner. Doctoral students may apply to keep their maintenance allowance during fieldwork, and up to six months of maternity or paternity funding is available where needed.

Applicants must be citizens of any country outside the UK and apply for a full-time residential doctorate, MSc, MLitt or Master's course at Cambridge.

The application includes the online form, a Gates Cambridge statement, a Gates Cambridge reference and, for PhD applicants only, a research proposal.
