Overview

The Amsterdam Merit Scholarship is a merit-based award from the University of Amsterdam (UvA) for high-achieving students from outside the European Union who want to take a Master's degree. It is offered through UvA Economics and Business and applies to the one-year MSc Business Administration programme.

What you get

The award waives the full tuition fee for the one-year programme and adds an extra allowance of EUR 5,000 that can go toward living costs in Amsterdam. Recipients receive confirmation of the tuition waiver after they have been admitted and completed enrolment.

Who can apply

The scholarship is intended for non-EU nationals applying to an eligible UvA Economics and Business Master's programme. The eligible tracks within MSc Business Administration are International Business, Digital Marketing and Consumer Marketing. Applicants should have excellent academic results, ideally in the top range of their previous studies, since the applicant pool is competitive.

Requirements

Candidates must not be entitled to Dutch student grants or loans, and they must not hold another full-coverage scholarship for the same study period, because the award cannot be combined with other full scholarships. They must be able to meet Dutch visa and residence permit requirements where these apply, and they need to submit a complete Master's application before the programme deadline. Each programme sets its own entry requirements and deadline.

How to apply

The scholarship is handled as part of the normal UvA Master's admissions process. Applicants first choose their MSc Business Administration track and check its entry requirements and deadline. They then register and apply through Studielink, the central application platform for Dutch universities, by creating an account, selecting the UvA programme and completing the online form. Applying well before the deadline is advisable because the award is competitive. After admission, students are asked to pay tuition as part of enrolment, and scholarship holders then have the full tuition waiver confirmed.
