World Bank Small AI for Development Hackathon 2026: Build Inclusive AI Solutions and Win Sponsored Travel to Seoul
Overview
The World Bank Group Small AI for Development Hackathon Challenge 2026 invites young people to build practical artificial intelligence solutions for communities with limited connectivity, infrastructure and access to digital technology. Participants compete in a two-day hybrid hackathon on 3-4 October 2026, with online participation and physical hubs. They develop a working Small AI solution addressing a real challenge in one of three sectors: health, agriculture or tourism.
What you get
Three winning entries will be selected, one per sector. Winners are invited to present at the Global AI and Digital Summit 2026, held 19-22 October 2026 at the Grand Hyatt in Seoul, Republic of Korea, with winner presentations on 21 October 2026. The challenge is organized by the World Bank Group's Digital and AI Vice Presidency with several partner units, Hack-Nation runs the competition platform, and the World Bank Group is sponsor and final judging authority.
About Small AI
Small AI is a targeted, use-case-driven approach that solves a clearly defined problem without heavy computing infrastructure. Solutions may run on basic mobile phones, sensors, microcontrollers, local models, SMS or voice interfaces, or devices with limited processing power, and may work with intermittent connectivity. They can use predictive, generative or agentic AI. Good entries are built around a specific problem, identified users, local data and knowledge, affordable devices, familiar channels and measurable outcomes.
