The World Bank Group is hiring an Operations Analyst for Climate and Sustainable Finance (job ID req37958) in Washington, DC, United States. The GE-grade post sits in the Climate Department's Sustainable Finance and Transaction Solutions unit, known as KTCSS, which is part of the Group's Planet Vertical. The Climate Department supports delivery on climate and development across IBRD, IDA, IFC and MIGA, integrating mitigation, adaptation, resilience and climate risk into projects, programs and analytics.
KTCSS develops scalable financial solutions in response to client demand. Its focus areas include sustainable finance instruments, climate co-benefits and Paris Alignment, greenhouse gas accounting and climate outcome metrics, and practical tools and data- and AI-enabled solutions.
What the role involves
The analyst is expected to be a versatile climate generalist whose assignments change with institutional priorities. Duties include industry, market, project and institutional research that synthesizes economic, financial, technical and portfolio data; support to teams on Paris Alignment, co-benefits, sustainable finance structuring, adaptation, resilience and climate risk; and collecting, cleaning and analyzing greenhouse gas accounting data, including gross, net and financed emissions and resilience outcomes.
The analyst also prepares briefs, presentations, reports, guidance notes and training materials, supports dashboards, data systems, process automation and AI-enabled tools including testing and user onboarding, and helps with work planning, portfolio tracking, procurement and contract coordination, meetings and deliverable tracking, while working across World Bank Group institutions.
Requirements
Candidates need a master's degree in finance, economics, business administration, public policy, international development, engineering, data analytics, environmental science or a closely related field, plus at least two years of relevant experience in sustainable finance, economic analysis or climate operations. Genuine interest in climate change, development or sustainable finance is expected, along with working knowledge of Paris Alignment, climate finance instruments, climate risk assessment, adaptation metrics or GHG accounting. Familiarity with greenhouse gas protocols and Scope 1, 2 and 3 calculations is preferred, as are strong quantitative, research and problem-solving skills.
