Overview
Women's Legal Service Victoria has worked for more than 40 years to advance gender equality, human rights and access to justice, providing integrated legal services, advocacy and community support to Victorian women and non-binary people affected by family violence and disadvantage. It is hiring a Senior Policy and Advocacy Advisor for its Victorian portfolio, based in the Melbourne CBD. The post is ongoing, full time or part time at a minimum of 0.8 FTE, with a flexible hybrid working model.
The advisor leads policy development, law reform and advocacy strategies in areas including family violence, child protection, victims' rights, criminal law relating to family and sexual violence, and gender equality. Duties include developing evidence-based policy and advocacy strategies, researching complex legal and policy issues, preparing submissions, reform proposals and advocacy materials, monitoring Victorian government and legislative developments, spotting policy risks and opportunities, building relationships with government agencies and community stakeholders, representing the organisation in consultations and working groups, and collaborating nationally.
Requirements
Ideal candidates have more than five years of experience in policy, advocacy, law reform, legal assistance, family violence or related work, a tertiary qualification in law, public policy, social policy, social science or a related field, and experience in advocacy campaigns, government relations or coalition advocacy. They should communicate complex issues persuasively, understand government decision-making, handle competing priorities in sensitive environments and commit to intersectional feminist, trauma-informed and culturally responsive approaches. What you get
The salary is AUD 119,982 to 125,298 per year plus superannuation.
