Overview

The Wells Fargo Small Business Fellowship runs from 2026 to 2027 and is funded by Wells Fargo while being delivered by Watson Institute. This 16-week program is structured for established entrepreneurs and small business owners who are expanding access to economic opportunities and strengthening local business communities. Program activities run from March 16 to June 30, 2027, and require a weekly commitment of approximately 8 to 10 hours.

Participants engage in expert-led workshops, leadership development, mentorship, and pitch coaching. The fellowship also features a community development initiative called a Basecamp, where Fellows design and facilitate workshops to help other business owners access resources, as well as a culminating Summit where participants can present their businesses.

Who can apply

The program is intended for growth-ready entrepreneurs who already have customers, can demonstrate measurable results, and have operational structures with growth potential. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and located in, or creating measurable impact in, specific communities in the United States: Denver, Colorado; Phoenix, Arizona; and Oakland and Richmond, California. The program prioritizes business owners who help other small businesses succeed and connect underserved communities to financial products and services.

What you get

Fellows receive 16 weeks of entrepreneurship training and leadership development delivered by experienced practitioners. Participants are matched with expert mentors who facilitate workshops, share practical insights, and provide one-on-one guidance. The program also provides networking opportunities, pitch coaching, and connections to potential investors, grantmakers, and corporate partners.

Additionally, participants receive a 1,000 USD Community Development Stipend to support their required Basecamp initiative. Selected participants also have the opportunity to compete for a share of 50,000 USD in Summit pitch prizes during the culminating event.

Key dates

The priority application deadline is January 24, 2027. Following this date, applications are accepted on a rolling basis until all available places are filled. The program takes place from March 16 to June 30, 2027.
