WBG Treasury Intern 2027: World Bank Treasury Summer Internship in Washington, DC
Overview
The World Bank Group Treasury offers a summer internship for 2027 as part of the WBG Pioneers Internship Program, open to undergraduate and postgraduate students. It runs full time for 10 weeks, from June 1 through August 9, 2027, in Washington, DC. Treasury carries out functions for IBRD, IDA and IFC and, to varying degrees, other World Bank Group entities and public and private sector organizations. Up to 17 interns will be hired.
The programme begins with a customized onboarding week. Interns then rotate through three Treasury teams, spending roughly three weeks with each, and every intern follows a different rotation schedule. Possible areas include Capital Markets, Asset Management, Client Solutions and Structuring, Treasury Operations, Partnerships and Advisory, Pension and Endowments, and Risk, Compliance and Controls.
What you get
Interns work on projects assigned by their teams, join weekly discussions with the programme director, and attend technical and career-focused sessions. They work with Treasury officers, managers and directors. A mentor and a coordinator are assigned for each rotation. Work is presented to the team at the end of each rotation, and the programme closes with a final capstone project presented to Treasury management.
Who can apply
Undergraduate applicants must be enrolled in the second-to-last year of the equivalent of a four-year degree in finance, business, economics or a related field, and expect to graduate between December 2027 and September 2028. They must be in good academic standing and provide a transcript, enrollment certificate or official university letter as evidence. A postgraduate track is also available for students currently enrolled in a master's or Ph.D. programme.
Requirements
English proficiency is required, and fluency in a second language is a plus. Candidates should show strong analytical, research and problem-solving ability, good written and verbal communication, organizational skills, and the ability to handle several priorities under tight deadlines. Interest in development work and in the World Bank Group mission is expected.
Experience with Python or software for managing and visualizing economic and financial data is desirable, as is experience extracting and processing data from sources such as Bloomberg, World Bank Group databases and International Monetary Fund databases. Previous paid work, internships or leadership roles in a financial organization or club are strongly encouraged.
