University of Zurich PhD and Postdoctoral Positions in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics 2026
Overview
The University of Zurich, through its Department of Informatics and Robotics and Perception Group, is offering multiple fully funded PhD and postdoctoral research positions. These openings focus on artificial intelligence, robotics, computer vision, and autonomous navigation. Researchers will work within four main areas, which include low-energy and low-latency world models using event cameras, vision-based robot learning with world models, learning vision-based navigation without state estimation in collaboration with the National University of Singapore, and spatial artificial intelligence for indoor navigation to assist blind individuals. Successful candidates will collaborate with international institutions, access world-class research facilities, and work alongside leading academics.
Who can apply
Applicants must hold a master's or PhD degree in computer science, computer engineering, mechanical engineering, robotics, physics, aerodynamics, or a related discipline. Candidates are required to possess strong programming skills in Python and C++, excellent written and spoken English proficiency, and substantial experience with robotic systems or aerial robots. Furthermore, applicants need a background in areas such as deep learning, reinforcement learning, control, path planning, aerodynamics, state estimation, computer vision, or numerical optimisation, alongside a strong interest in mathematics, programming, abstract problem-solving, robotics, and computer vision. Postdoctoral applicants must additionally demonstrate an excellent research record featuring publications in high-impact journals or conferences, plus practical and theoretical experience in efficiently solving complex computer vision or robotics problems. Desirable qualifications include prior experience with PyTorch, TensorFlow, ROS, OpenCV, and Git.
What you get
The positions are fully funded and structured as regular employment roles that include a pension plan, accident insurance, and competitive salaries. Researchers receive access to advanced infrastructure such as GPU computing facilities, a large motion-capture arena, 3D printing equipment, and electronic and mechanical workshops. Additional benefits comprise academic seminars, international collaborations, visits from industry experts and leading scientists, and a supportive environment featuring laboratory retreats, social gatherings, hikes, and ski trips.
Requirements
Applications are evaluated on a rolling basis until all positions are filled. Candidates are advised to apply early.
