Overview

The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), with funding from the Government and People of Japan, runs a fully funded Digital Upskilling and Reskilling Programme for 2026. It is aimed at Ukrainian women refugees in Poland and internally displaced women in Ukraine, and builds practical digital skills for employment, remote work and entrepreneurship. Training is delivered in Ukrainian, Polish and English with partners including the Polish-Japanese Academy of Information Technology, the Ukrainian Catholic University and Eukarya.

About 500 women will be selected for the first phase. Every participant completes mandatory AI Fundamentals training and then chooses a track, either Geographic Information Systems (GIS) or AI Programming using Python. Phase I is online and includes modules, weekly webinars, consultation sessions, personalised coaching, practical assignments, portfolios and project planning. Up to 75 top performers advance to Phase II, a virtual hackathon and workshop where teams solve real-world challenges with mentors and industry professionals. About 30 outstanding participants reach Phase III, a final conference where they present projects and pitch business ideas to employers, investors and donors, and receive further mentoring. Those who complete the programme and meet performance requirements receive an official UNITAR Certificate.
