Overview
UNICEF is recruiting a Logistics Assistant (Warehouse) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The post is a G-4 Fixed Term Appointment within the Supply Management function (job number 595599). It helps ensure that UNICEF's warehouse and supply-chain activities are planned, documented and carried out according to established procedures, and that supplies and services are delivered on time.
The role coordinates routine supply-chain work, including transport of goods and materials, purchase orders, contracts, deliveries and payments, and works with programme and supply teams to meet deadlines and comply with rules and guidelines.
What you will do
The assistant plans incoming local supplies and warehouse space, receives supplies from local vendors, and makes sure proof of delivery, inspection reports, Goods Receipt Notices and put-away documents are accurate. Other tasks include keeping bin cards consistent with the VISION system, storing items by batch, expiry date and location, filing goods received notes and dispatch waybills, keeping warehouses clean and serviced, overseeing safe practices by third-party contractors, supporting vehicle loading for dispatches, handling returned supplies and informing programme sections, and supervising ancillary and casual labourers at local supplies warehouses.
Requirements
Applicants need completed secondary education and at least four years of relevant experience in areas such as supply management, contracting, logistics, warehouse operations, inventory control, procurement support, distribution, transport coordination, records management, health and safety, or emergency response. Fluent English is required, and another UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset. Experience in development, fragile or humanitarian settings is also an asset, as is knowledge of inventory accuracy, supply chains and service orientation.
UNICEF looks for communication, teamwork, planning and results orientation, along with competencies such as partnership building, ethical awareness, embracing change and managing ambiguity.
