Overview

UNICEF is seeking a Data and Monitoring Consultant for Child Protection and Early Childhood Development within the Office of Strategy and Evidence, UNICEF Innocenti (job number 594317). The consultancy lasts 12 months, lists Florence, Italy as the duty station and is described as remote.

The consultant joins the Child Protection and Development Data team and supports work on early childhood development and selected child protection topics, including birth registration, violence against children and children living outside family care. The work is supervised by the Senior Adviser, Statistics, Child Protection, Development and Disability.

What you will do

Tasks include compiling and analyzing data for UNICEF products, preparing draft charts, tables, maps and key messages, drafting technical notes, fact-checking and proofreading data-driven publications, and supporting their design and layout. The consultant also designs methodological work for new data collection tools, tests and validates instruments, supports statistical classifications, runs capacity-building workshops, and gives countries technical help in interpreting and using data for programming.

Requirements

Applicants need a Master's degree in demography, public health, social sciences or a related field, and at least 10 years of experience in data, statistics and monitoring. International experience with project management is preferred, along with experience preparing data content for publications, designing and validating data collection instruments, and technical knowledge of early childhood development and child protection data. Experience in the UN system is desirable. Fluent English is required, together with strong analytical, organizational, communication and relationship-building skills, initiative, and the ability to work independently and in a team.
