Overview

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is recruiting a Supply Associate at the GS6 level (requisition JR2668361) at its Global Service Centre in Budapest, Hungary. It is a 12-month temporary assignment running from 1 September 2026 to 30 August 2027. Budapest is classified as an H (No Hardship) duty station. The role supports supply operations across UNHCR's global humanitarian response so that goods, services and materials reach refugees, displaced people and field missions in line with UN standards.

What the role involves

Reporting to a Supply Officer and working with UN agencies, commercial vendors and partners, the associate handles procurement and sourcing: executing purchase requests under UNHCR rules, preparing tender documents, compiling quotation evaluations, supporting Local Contracts Committee processes, and maintaining vendor databases and performance records.

The role also coordinates domestic and international shipping, customs clearance and freight movements, tracks shipments, and manages warehouse records and inventory controls. In the ERP systems (MSRP and Workday), the associate processes purchase orders, verifies invoices and reconciles supplier payments, produces inventory and expenditure reports, and reconciles physical stock counts with system records. Fleet and asset duties include tracking UNHCR assets and capital equipment and supporting vehicle maintenance schedules. Occasional support to field operations may occur.

Requirements

Candidates need either a high school diploma with at least 6 years of relevant supply chain, procurement, logistics or transport experience, or a bachelor's degree or higher in supply chain management, business administration, logistics, commerce or a related field with at least 2 years of relevant experience.

Practical experience with ERP supply software such as MSRP, SAP, Oracle or Workday is expected, along with strong knowledge of international commercial procurement, freight forwarding and warehouse administration, and proficiency in MS Office. Written and spoken English is mandatory, while Hungarian or another official UN language is an asset. Core competencies include integrity and professionalism, respect for diversity and accountability in planning.

Key dates

Applications close on 24 August 2026, with a target start date of 1 September 2026.
