UNFPA Internship 2026 in New York with Stipend | Private Sector & Civil Society Internship
Overview
The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is offering a 24-week, full-time, in-person internship in its Private Sector and Civil Society Branch at its headquarters in New York. The internship centers on strategic partnerships, private-sector engagement, philanthropy, fundraising, research, due diligence and development. It carries no salary, but eligible interns may receive a stipend.
The intern works under a Strategic Partnership Specialist and supports the Corporations and Businesses team and the Foundations and Philanthropy team. A work plan with goals and learning opportunities is agreed at the start, and regular progress meetings support skills development.
What you will do
Tasks include mapping prospects among foundations, corporations and wealth management entities ahead of major global events, using the CRM to track donor trends, tracking requests for proposals, and helping prepare donor intelligence briefs, grant briefings, background notes and investment cases. The intern also supports high-level meetings, side events and roundtables by drafting concept notes, agendas and outreach emails, and helps manage Tier 1 corporate partnerships through meeting notes and agreement management. Further duties cover partner pre-screening and due diligence, drafting partnership risk frameworks, maintaining knowledge repositories, developing training materials and toolkits for regional and country office staff, and preparing quarterly analysis reports for Foundations and Philanthropies.
Who can apply
Applicants must be enrolled in a first university degree and have completed one full academic year, be enrolled in a postgraduate programme, have graduated recently and start within one year of graduation, or be in a postgraduate professional trainee programme. The preferred profile is a postgraduate student, a final-year undergraduate, or a recent advanced-degree graduate in social sciences, public administration, international relations, business administration, development studies or a similar field.
Requirements
Candidates need a demonstrated interest in development, proficiency in English or French, which are United Nations working languages, and fluency in the official language of the UNFPA office. They should adapt to new environments and work well with people of different cultural backgrounds.
