Overview

UNFPA, the United Nations agency focused on sexual and reproductive health and rights, maternal health, gender equality, population issues and young people, recruits across many categories. Its jobs platform lists professional and above grades, administrative and support grades, national posts, service contracts, consultancies, and internships or fellowships, so the routes open to early-career candidates depend on qualifications and experience.

Current listings include administrative, programme and internship positions in places such as Harare, Lome, Copenhagen, Yangon, Sarajevo and Dar es Salaam. Not every vacancy is entry-level or open internationally. Some national posts are limited to people who meet the nationality or residency rules for the duty station, while internationally recruited roles follow different criteria.

Who can apply

Early-career candidates may find roles in programme support, administration, operations, finance, communications, population and development, gender and youth. Suitability depends on academic background, experience, language skills and the conditions of each vacancy.

UNFPA also keeps a Global Internship Roster for 2026. It is open to students who have completed at least one academic year of a first university degree, postgraduate students, and recent graduates who start an internship within one year of graduating. Interns should show an interest in development and be proficient in at least one United Nations working language, with extra language needs depending on the office.

What you get

Contract types include fixed-term appointments, temporary appointments, consultancies, internships, fellowships, national posts and service contracts. Interns without financial support from an outside source may be eligible for a stipend toward living expenses. The amount reflects the agreed place of work and is normally paid in local currency at the end of each month. This does not apply to every vacancy.

How to apply

Applicants search the UNFPA jobs portal by title, location, grade or contract type, then open each vacancy to check its closing date, education, experience, language requirements, eligibility limits and requested documents.

UNFPA states that it charges no fees at any stage of recruitment, including application, processing, training, interviewing and testing.
