What the role involves
In programme and project administration, the assistant helps prepare, coordinate and monitor administrative and financial operations for regional projects and workshops, and reviews project documents, budgets and implementation reports for accuracy and compliance with UN financial rules.
Logistics work covers high-level international meetings, regional network workshops and training sessions, as well as travel authorizations, visa support and administrative processing for participants, consultants and staff. The assistant keeps databases, filing systems and tracking tools for project milestones, financial commitments and correspondence, and drafts routine correspondence, meeting minutes and progress reports. The assistant is also a main contact for regional government focal points, implementing agencies and technical experts working with the network.
Requirements
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Post-secondary education in business administration, public administration, project management or environmental studies is an advantage. Candidates need several years of progressively responsible experience in programme administration, project management support, financial tracking or office operations, and experience in the UN system or an international organization is highly desirable.
Skills include advanced Microsoft Office and Excel, digital collaboration tools and, ideally, familiarity with UN enterprise resource planning systems. Fluency in English is mandatory, other UN official languages relevant to the region are an advantage, and the ability to meet tight deadlines, handle confidential information and maintain careful attention to detail is expected.
