Overview
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is recruiting an Economist - Development Strategy for its Regional Bureau for Asia and the Pacific, based in Bangkok, Thailand. The post is at IPSA-11 level under an International Personnel Service Agreement, full time, with a one-year contract and English as the required language. It sits in the Inclusive Growth Team at the Bangkok Regional Hub, which supports governments and Country Offices across the region on growth, productivity, jobs, labour markets, inequality, poverty, structural transformation and social protection.
A major part of the work is the Building Opportunities for Leadership in Development (BOLD) initiative, a high-level advisory effort that helps governments turn economic evidence, diagnostics and foresight into prioritised reform pathways. The economist will conduct and support research on employment, labour market trends, inclusive development and economic opportunities, using quantitative and qualitative methods to produce diagnostics. This includes examining why an economy grows or underperforms, identifying structural constraints and assessing sectors for transformation and job creation. Data sources may include microdata, labour market information, poverty and inequality indicators, productivity statistics and macroeconomic data.
Requirements
The education requirement is a Master's degree with 7 years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor's degree with 9 years. Tier 0, Tier 1 and Tier 2 applicants are accepted.
