Overview

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is seeking a Communications Analyst based in Banjul, Gambia. The post is full-time at NPSA-9 level under a National Personnel Service Agreement, with an initial one-year contract, and is open to internal and external applicants. The job identification number is 36377.

The analyst works in the Governance practice area, linked to the Regional Bureau for Africa, and handles communications, visibility, knowledge management, digital outreach, media engagement and stakeholder relations for the Building Resilience and Inclusive Development for Governance and Equality (BRIDGE) Project. The project is supported by the African Development Bank (AfDB) and aims to strengthen gender-responsive, transparent and accountable governance while expanding women's leadership and participation.

What you will do

The analyst develops and refines the project's Communication and Visibility Plan, maps stakeholders, segments audiences and prepares evidence-based messages, all in line with UNDP policies and AfDB visibility requirements. Content work covers human-interest stories, case studies, feature articles, press releases, speeches, website and newsletter material, social media, photography and video, plus support for reports, policy briefs and toolkits.

The role also includes running digital channels, building relations with national and international media, organizing press briefings and field visits, contributing to donor reporting, documenting lessons learned, and coordinating communication among government bodies, partners, civil society, and women and youth-led organizations.

Requirements

Applicants need a master's degree plus two years of experience, or a bachelor's degree plus four years, in communications, journalism, public relations, social sciences or a related field. Skills with Microsoft Office, web-based systems, spreadsheets and databases are expected, and photography, video, social media and partnership development strengthen an application. Experience with the UN or donor-funded projects is an asset.

English is required. Mandinka, Wolof, Fula or Jola is desirable.
