Overview

The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) is offering an Editorial and AI Communications internship in Geneva, Switzerland. The placement is in the Office of the Secretary-General and suits students and recent graduates in communications, journalism, digital media, linguistics, international relations, economics and related fields. It focuses on how generative AI and new digital tools are changing the way institutional content is written, found and read.

The internship is full time, about 40 hours across five days a week, and unpaid. It is expected to start on 1 December 2026 and initially lasts three months.

What you get

The intern supports editorial and communications work on trade and development. Tasks include drafting, editing and adapting web stories and explainers, writing social media copy and newsletters, and improving clarity, structure and headlines while keeping accuracy and institutional neutrality. The intern also prepares content so that conventional search and AI answer systems can understand and surface it, using precise headings, credible sources and structured metadata. Further work includes researching AI-assisted content discovery and content provenance, testing approved AI tools and prompts under human review, and documenting workflows, limitations and safeguards.

UNCTAD does not pay interns. Travel, accommodation, medical insurance, living costs and visa arrangements are the intern's responsibility.

Who can apply

Applicants must either be enrolled in or have completed a graduate programme, or be enrolled in or have completed the final year of a bachelor's-level degree. Work experience is not required.
