Overview

What the role involved

Duties included developing databases and data collection systems, running analytics, cleaning and maintaining data, quality assurance, building reports and dashboards, automating manual processes, preparing datasets for analysts, producing basic visualizations, documenting methodologies and writing briefings. The specialist would also contribute to data science products using AI, machine learning, predictive analytics, data mining, text mining and natural language processing, and act as a resource person and informal mentor on data analytics.

Requirements

Applicants needed an advanced degree in computer science, data science, analytics, statistics, applied mathematics, information management, information systems or a related quantitative field, or a first-level degree with qualifying experience. At least two years of progressively responsible experience translating business requirements into technical solutions was required, including quality assurance of data analysis outputs. Experience with data validation and visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, Qlik and R was desirable, as were certifications in data engineering, analytics, AI, machine learning or cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure. English was required at UN Language Framework Level II across reading, writing, listening and speaking.
