Overview

The International Trade Centre (ITC) is recruiting an Administrative Assistant at the G-5 level in Geneva, Switzerland, in the Sector and Enterprise Competitiveness Section (SEC) of the Division of Enterprise Competitiveness and Institutions (DECI). ITC works under the mandate Transforming trade. Changing lives. and supports trade-led economic development, particularly in the Global South, by helping small businesses and strengthening supporting ecosystems. The assistant works under the Chief of SEC and the overall guidance of the Director of DECI. The post focuses on administration, human resources, finance, budget support, travel, contract administration and office coordination.

The appointment is fixed term, initially for one year, with the post available from March 2027. ITC offers flexible work arrangements intended to support work-life balance. The post is subject to local recruitment under UN Staff Rule 4.4, so locally recruited staff do not receive allowances or benefits reserved for international recruitment, and candidates selected from outside Geneva cover their own relocation costs.

Who can apply

Applicants need five years of relevant experience, or three years combined with a university degree, in areas such as administrative services, finance, accounting, audit or human resources. Experience in the UN common system and with an enterprise resource planning system is desirable. Candidates must be authorized to work for the United Nations at the duty station.

Requirements

Both English and French are required at UN Level III in reading, writing, listening and speaking. Competencies are professionalism, including applying UN administrative, financial and human resources rules, communication, and teamwork.

In human resources administration, the assistant supports recruitment, placement, relocation, performance appraisal, job classification, separation and training, keeps records, reviews entitlement claims, advises staff and maintains staffing tables. In budget and finance, they monitor expenditures and allotments through UMOJA or the Projects Portal, update budget tables, review spending against approved budgets, check requisitions and prepare statistical tables and standard financial reports. General duties include official travel arrangements, routine correspondence, vendor payments and arrangements for seminars and conferences. The assistant also processes contractor invoices and payments.
