Overview

The U.S. Embassy in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, is recruiting an IT Infrastructure Technician, vacancy number DaresSalaam-2026-020, open to all interested candidates. The position is in the Diplomatic Technology Office and involves installing, maintaining, repairing and supporting IT and communications infrastructure across U.S. Government facilities, vehicles and official residences. It is a permanent, full-time post of 40 hours per week, classified LE-7, based entirely in Dar es Salaam, with occasional travel and no telework. The annual salary is TZS 33,248,367.

Requirements

Applicants need at least two years of post-secondary study at a vocational college or university in IT infrastructure, telecommunications or network systems, plus at least two years of hands-on experience installing, repairing and troubleshooting data, voice, radio or audio-visual systems, including telephone and PABX, radio communications and cabling. They need Level 3 working English and good working Kiswahili, which may be tested. Skills sought include IT infrastructure theory, telecommunications and internet-access regulations, cabling standards, equipment inventory systems, reading technical documents and schematics, using hand and power tools and diagnostic equipment such as multimeters and network testers, Microsoft Office, network topology diagrams and independent work. Selected candidates must obtain and maintain security and medical certifications and undergo a background investigation and pre-employment medical examination.
