Overview

The Royal Tropical Institute (KIT), an independent knowledge institute, business hub and conference centre working toward an inclusive and sustainable world, is hiring a Project Officer in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The post is a maternity leave replacement of 32 to 40 hours per week, initially on a one-year contract, with an expected start on 1 November 2026 or earlier. The officer joins the Project Office, a team of five that manages acquisition and contract processes for about 45 KIT experts on development projects in areas such as Sustainable Economic Development, Global Health, Gender and Education.

What you get

The gross monthly salary is between EUR 3,138 and EUR 3,780 for a 40-hour week, depending on experience. Benefits include an 8% holiday allowance, ABP pension fund membership, about 25 vacation days, 13 ADV days when working full-time, a travel allowance, an NS Business Card, kilometre allowance or bicycle plan, a workplace in a historic building in central Amsterdam, and the option of working from home for up to 50% of the time.

Requirements

The officer manages project acquisition through tender procedures, scans the market for opportunities, assesses tender feasibility, prepares project budgets, negotiates and prepares contracts, evaluates funding and partnership agreements, supports project managers, funders and partners on budget and contract matters, monitors GDPR compliance and keeps internal systems current.

Applicants need a university or higher vocational education in a field such as business administration, organisational management, economics, law or management, and at least two years of relevant experience. Relevant areas include business development, donor regulations, grants and funding schemes, EU funding, budgeting and contract management. Experience with institutional donors is an advantage. Excellent English and good working Dutch are required, and French is an advantage. Candidates must either live in the Netherlands or already hold a work and residence permit for the Netherlands.
