The School of Engineering at the University of Leicester is recruiting a Teaching Fellow in Engineering Design and Experimentation. The post is permanent, available full time or as a job share, and based on site. The fellow helps deliver a strong student experience across undergraduate and taught postgraduate programmes, within a friendly, international community of engineering scientists whose degree programmes share a unified approach to engineering education.

What you will do

The role involves planning and delivering lectures, laboratory classes, workshops and tutorials in engineering design, experimentation, engineering fundamentals and engineering management, and supervising design and research projects. The fellow provides assessment and feedback, acts as a personal tutor and supports development of curriculum content and teaching materials. Working with colleagues, they also contribute to module leadership, scholarship, quality assurance and outreach.

Requirements

Applicants should have a good first degree in engineering or a relevant physical science, or an HNC or HND meeting the academic requirements for registration to at least Incorporated Engineer standard. They should also hold, or be close to completing, a PhD, or offer equivalent industrial or educational engineering experience in areas such as engineering management, hardware design and experimental techniques or research. Experience of preparing and delivering teaching, training or mentoring in an academic or industrial engineering setting is essential, with a proven record in higher education or professional engineering. The fellow must be able to teach at university or equivalent professional level, supervise projects and mentor small design teams, with strong written and verbal communication. Practical manufacturing experience, knowledge of engineering management techniques, professional registration, Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy or engagement with a professional institution would be advantageous.

What you get

The salary is 39,906 to 46,049 GBP per year at Grade 7, pro rata if part time. The university offers a pension scheme and a generous annual leave allowance.
