Overview

The University of Southampton is seeking a Teaching Fellow in Creative Computing and Creative Technologies within the Department of Art & Media Technology at the Winchester School of Art. This position contributes primarily to the growing Bachelor of Science in Creative Computing and Master of Science in Creative Technologies programmes, with opportunities to collaborate across Games Design and Art, Fine Art, and the broader interdisciplinary portfolio. The role is based on site in the United Kingdom.

Who can apply

Applications are welcomed from early-career academics, creative technologists, digital artists, and practitioners. Candidates with a practice-based doctorate, or an interest in developing one, are particularly welcome, although a PhD is not required. The institution encourages applications from candidates belonging to groups currently underrepresented within higher education and the creative technology sector.

What you get

The position offers a permanent, full-time contract with a salary ranging from £39,560 to £45,641 per annum. Employees receive access to competitive pay rates, generous annual leave, family leave policies, pension provision, staff development opportunities, and health and wellbeing services. The role also includes dedicated time to contribute to research and enterprise activities alongside teaching responsibilities.

Requirements

Applicants must have experience in creative computing, creative technologies, digital art, design, games, or a related field, alongside experience using coding, computational methods, or digital technologies within professional or creative practice. Candidates need the ability to support students in developing creative, technical, and critical skills through practical, project-based learning. Additional qualifications include enthusiasm for interdisciplinary collaboration and experimentation, a commitment to inclusive and student-centred teaching, and an interest in research, enterprise, knowledge exchange, or professional practice activities.

How to apply

As part of the selection process, candidates are required to deliver a short teaching demonstration introducing a coding, computational, or creative technology concept to students. This session is open to members of the Department to showcase the candidate's teaching style, ability to engage diverse learners, and approach to practice-based creative technology education. Informal enquiries can be directed to Dr Adam Procter via email.

Key dates

The closing date for applications is 18 November 2026.
