Overview

The University of Warwick is seeking a senior research technician to join Professor Gary Bending's research group within the School of Life Sciences. This position provides support for the European Research Council Advanced Grant project titled RHYTHMS, which investigates how plant circadian rhythms shape rhizosphere microbial communities, nitrogen cycling, and interactions with bacteriophages. The role offers professional development opportunities, including the chance to attend international conferences, and gives the successful candidate a chance to contribute to research situated at the interface of plant biology, microbial ecology, and soil science.

What you get

The position provides a salary ranging from £31,861 to £35,302 per annum on a full-time, fixed-term contract basis. Employees also gain access to substantial professional development opportunities within the wider University of Warwick environment, such as attending international conferences, alongside training to develop new specialist technical and research-management skills.

Requirements

Candidates should hold a relevant degree or possess equivalent knowledge alongside practical experience. Applicants need to have expertise working with microorganisms and must take a methodical approach when planning experiments and recording results. The ability to work both independently and within a multidisciplinary team is necessary. While not strictly required, previous experience with plant growth experiments, environmental sampling, molecular biology, research data management, and the preparation of health and safety documentation is considered advantageous.

Key dates
