The role is based on site at the William Leech Building and the Paul O'Gorman Building within the Newcastle University Centre for Cancer. The appointment is for a duration of two years in the first instance.

The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team of clinicians and non-clinical scientists to work on projects related to liver cancer, specifically hepatocellular carcinoma and steatotic liver disease. Responsibilities include maintaining and further developing datasets for a secure data environment supported by Cancer Research Horizons. The role focuses on applying bioinformatic analyses to various datasets, including single nucleotide polymorphisms, RNAseq, serum proteome, whole slide images, and spatial data, while incorporating clinical data to identify biomarkers for hepatocellular carcinoma development risk and treatment response.

While not strictly mandatory, preferred qualifications include detailed knowledge of chronic liver disease, hepatocellular carcinoma staging, medical therapies, and experience in assessing liver biopsy histopathology images. Candidates are also expected to have a strong understanding of various spatial technologies, including their benefits and disadvantages, and prior experience with spatial data analyses.
