Overview

The University of Liverpool is offering a Research Fellow or Postdoctoral Research Associate position within the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, Institute of Population Health, Department of Public Health, Policy and Systems. This role is part of a major National Institute for Health and Care Research funded programme examining how food environment policies can prevent diet-related disease and reduce health inequalities across the UK. The successful candidate will join the NCD Prevention and Food Policy Group and work alongside institutional partners. The position is available for 51 months, running until March 2031.

Who can apply

Applicants should hold a PhD in public health, epidemiology, data science, applied statistics, or economics. Candidates who are still awaiting their PhD to be awarded may also be appointed. Experience in epidemiological analysis and statistical programming using tools such as R is required. Knowledge of epidemiological simulation or health economic modelling, as well as experience in nutritional epidemiology applications and nutritional datasets, is highly desirable.

What you get

The role provides an annual training budget, conference funding, study visits to partner institutions, and a placement opportunity with a policy body such as the Department of Health and Social Care or the World Health Organization Europe. Appointees also receive National Institute for Health and Care Research Academy membership. The salary is scaled according to experience and qualification status, with Grade 6 designated for candidates awaiting a PhD, and Grade 7 and Grade 8 positions available for qualified researchers.

Requirements

The appointed individual is expected to develop and run microsimulation models, specifically the IMPACT-NCD and PRIMEtime models, to estimate the population health and economic impacts of food environment policy portfolios with health equity central to the analysis. While the university utilizes a hybrid working system, the successful applicant is required to work on campus for more than sixty percent of the time.
