Research Fellow in Climate Simulation
Overview
The University of Southampton invites applications for a postdoctoral Research Fellow position in climate simulation, located at the National Oceanography Centre Southampton. This role sits within the Paleooceanography and Palaeoclimate department of the School of Ocean and Earth Sciences, working in collaboration with the Schools of Mathematical Sciences and Electronic and Computer Sciences, alongside external partners. The appointment is tied to the UKRI NERC funded Fast and Artificially intelligent Climate projection Tool project, which aims to develop an AI-enhanced Reduced Order Earth System Model for observationally constrained climate projections.
What you get
The position offers a salary of £45,641 per annum on a full-time, fixed-term contract running until 31/03/2028, with a potential extension dependent on successful grant capture. Employees receive access to a competitive range of benefits, including pension scheme membership, a generous annual leave allowance supplemented by University closure days and public holidays, and family leave arrangements covering maternity, paternity, adoption, and parental leave.
Requirements
The role focuses on continuing the development of the Reduced Order climate Model component to produce latitudinal climate projections, generating very-large ensembles of observationally constrained simulations using Bayesian statistical methods, and combining the reduced order model with an artificial intelligence approach to generate spatial climate projections.
Key dates
The closing date for applications is 2026-11-12, with submissions accepted until 11:59 pm UK time on this date. The interview date is to be confirmed.
